Release Day! Meet the Misfits

Hi there readers of this fabulous blog.

My name is Rainbow and authors Lynn & Morris were nice enough to let me take over this little place of the internet for a bit on this release day of my story.

You can call me Rain, by the way. All my friends do.

Honestly, my life isn't that interesting. Or at least it wouldn't be without my friends, who are also my family. And since I've only got this one blog post, I thought I'd talk about them. Okay with you?

Countdown to Rainbowland: An Interview with our cover model!

One of the most exciting parts of the publishing journey is seeing your cover and it says everything you want it to about your story. You visualize it on the shelf next to all the other books, or on lists online. There's a huge squeal of excitement when you know the cover embodies what the book is all about.

One of the coolest parts about the cover for Rainbows and Raindrops is that it has our leading lady on it. When our friend Rachel offered to do a photo shoot for us we gave her a rather vague description (brown hair died different colors, brown eyes, carefree spirit). I think Jen and I cried when she sent us the pictures.

Rachel had found our Rain.

And now we get to learn a little bit about her.

What is your name?

Lauren Mueller

How do you know Rachel (the photographer who took your picture)?
I met her when I first started speech, she is my speech coach.

How did you feel when she asked you about the photo shoot?
I felt absolutely excited and honored to model for such a wonderful book

What do you feel about the final cover?

I love it! It was most certainly well made.

Are you a reader? Writer? Movie fanatic? What do you do in your free time?
I do enjoy reading. I also do a bit of writing, but nothing official. On my free time I am usually writing, hanging with friends, take photos, and drawing.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?
Honestly, I have not thought that far. Hopefully I will have a job that I love and still have the time and energy to write and do photography.

Thanks so much for being our Rain, Lauren! You're perfect.

Add Rain and her misfits to your TBR list here.

Countdown to Rainbowland: Interview with our Cover Photographer

While RAINBOWS AND RAINDROPS isn't the first book by Kelley Lynn & Jenny S. Morris it is the first book we've published ourselves.

Because we were headed into uncharted waters (now under the Lynn & Morris brand) we knew we needed a team to support our journey. We couldn't have asked for a better crew. Over the course of the next three weeks and five interviews, we'll introduce you to our team. We can't recommend them enough, so if you have questions or want to ask about our experience, please feel free to reach out.

Today we have an interview with the photographer who did the shoot that lead us to this beautiful cover. Not only is she a dear friend of ours, but she is wicked talented. She found our Rain.

And we'll let her take it from here.

Countdown to Rainbowland: An interview with our cover designer!

Words from Jenny:

Okay, I have a little confession to make. I've been stalking our cover designer for a long time. There, I feel better now. She's done covers for several of my friends and I always drooled over them. And there were also two different pre-made covers that I would have KILLED to have, but just wasn't publishing those books at the time. So when we decided to publish RAINBOWS AND RAINDROPS, I knew who I wanted. Rachel had already taken a fabulous picture, so we knew our next step was having Allie turn it into a cover.

I waited with baited breath for the first mockups to come in, and when they did I was... let's just say it wasn't my vision. But that's the thing. What was my vision? I had no clue. LOL. And when I tried to convey it to Allie, I'm pretty sure I sounded like Chicken Little when he gets hit by the acorn. But that's what's brilliant about our cover designer. She took Kelley and I's broad ideas and turn them into our cover. When she sent our new mockup a few days later.

And I was like...

And this was Kelley...

NOT FADING TO BLACK: a little bit about depression

If you've been following along on our guide to RAINBOWS AND RAINDROPS, then you know that Rainbowland is a place where all of our misfits live and preserver against whatever life throws at them. One of the things that is featured heavily in the book is the concept of BEFORE and AFTER. Before and after what exactly will not be discussed since it's a total spoiler. :) But know that the event that happens crushes our main character's spirit and she loses who she is for a short time.

Countdown to Rainbowland: Interview with My Formatting Hero: Cassie

When Kelley and I decided to self-publish Rain, I was a little freaked. This is only my second book published, and the first one to be self-published. The process seemed a little overwhelming. Thankfully, we found amazing people who were able take our baby, and make it so much better. Without the next person we're highlighting, I'd probably me a basket case. Formatting a Word document so it can go onto your Kindle, Kobo or whatever form the reader chooses, takes a lot of work. Especially if you have no clue what to do. Cassie is amazing, and I'm so thankful for her help.

Countdown to Rainbowland: Interview with our Marketing Guru

While RAINBOWS AND RAINDROPS isn't the first book by Kelley Lynn & Jenny S. Morris it is the first book we've published ourselves.

Because we were headed into uncharted waters (now under the Lynn & Morris brand) we knew we needed a team to support our journey. We couldn't have asked for a better crew. Over the course of the next three weeks and five interviews, we'll introduce you to our team. We can't recommend them enough, so if you have questions or want to ask about our experience, please feel free to reach out.

Today we have an interview with our marketer. We can personally say hiring a marketing expert was the right decision for us. We didn't have time to set up a cover real tour or book release tour. We don't know the first thing about getting our work up on NetGalley. That's what Ashley is for.

And we'll let her take it from here.
